There is a brief history behind this cake we want to speak upon as it may bring some more insight into this Johnny & Elle’s Delicacy. This is Johnny’s first coffeecake recipe. One of Johnny’s experiments with flour and fat types, it was late fall and cranberries were on sale everywhere., and he didn’t have any recipes in his notebook using cranberries. Johnny wanted to make something delicious, tart and sweet, nutty and buttery, textured crackle, with woody earthy flavors. This cake is the culmination of a chef that didn’t bake, a cabinet full of ingredients, and seasonal timing come together. We adapted to use dried cranberries in this cake to make it shelf stable for shipping, but this is our first, and only, coffeecake recipe.
With dried cranberries, toasted pecans, pure cane sugar, yogurt, and rich butter, this cake has a crispy outer edge, dense interior, and crackling pops of flavor throughout. This cake was designed to be shared over conversation and coffee, or brought out after dinner with cocoa or drinks. A beautiful dessert for the holidays, but wonderful all year round.
What makes ours excellent: This recipe was literally created by mixing ingredients, taking notes, adapting, and repeating the process with no base or boundaries to work off of, which makes it unconventional in the field of cakes. We use a pure cane sugar and butter coating on the cake pan for a crackly, sweet, buttery outer surface. A wonderfully balanced texture and flavor profile, this is actually “Johnny’s First Special.”

Shortbread cookies are classic, classic traditional cookie that doesn’t have egg or leavening. A lot of modern interpretations of Shortbread Cookies have been altered to include binders, leavening, or other conditioners to bypass the laborious process of making a delicious, luscious, decadent Shortbread Cookie. To us, a Classic, Traditional, Luscious Shortbread Cookie is almost like eating just the crust from a pie.
Our shortbread cookies are cut thick, exposing the butter in these cookies to warmth for a longer period of time. This allows the butter to melt down, coat your mouth, and leave a luscious rich buttery coating for a euphoric experience. These cookies are meant to be enjoyed slowly, to truly be ‘in the moment’ while you are indulging in our shortbread cookies is our best advice.
What makes ours excellent: Made with curated, high quality ingredients and cut a bit thicker than normal for a more luscious, euphoric experience indulging in our shortbread cookies. These are like the pie crust crumbles that you get to eat when your guest are gone, that guilty pleasure only you know when your guests have gone.

The taste of toasted pecans is a favorite of ours at Johnny And Elles Handmade Kitchen, a carryover from our days catering Cajun & Creole food. By browning the butter first, and salting the cookies with Maldon sea salt, and finally toasting the pecans before adding to the dough, we bring out the rich, luscious fats from the butter and the pecans. Maldon sea salt flakes help open up your tastebuds for the rolling flavors of pure cane sugar, bittersweet Ghirardelli chocolate chips, and a touch of whole wheat flour for deep, luscious, rich flavors.
If you are a fan of sweet and salty, earthy, rich, luscious classic cookie styles, then our Brown Butter Salted Pecan Gourmet Cookies are in your wheelhouse.
What makes ours excellent: Made with curated, high quality ingredients and shaped a bit thicker than normal for more decadent, luscious, experience while it takes time to break down a thicker cookie, coating your mouth in rich butterfat, toasted pecan oils, rolling between the contrast of sweet and salty, dark and earthy.
