Indulgent Brownies (Cherry Toasted Walnut or Traditional Dark Chocolate) *A Johnny Special*
Back when Johnny started baking experiments, the allure of the classic Chicago invented brownie was abuzz in folklore. The early days of internet recipes, the recipe wasn’t available but the folklore and stories of the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair (World’s Columbian Exhibition) and the introduction to the world of the now infamous, “Brownie" from the Palmer House Hotel in Chicago. Reading newspaper descriptions available online gave this illusion of an undercooked, wetter version of a brownie than we are familiar with today. That was the extent of information available at the time.
When Johnny started experimenting with baking brownies, this folklore of the original Chicago brownie was floating around in his head. He utilized a stovetop brownie method and used jelly to flavor the brownies and keep them moist. This recipe was developed, along with flavor combinations, and two versions of brownies are now on Johnny’s ‘special list’ of unique recipes.
Johnny And Elles Handmade Kitchen Cherry Walnut Brownies are an experience hard to describe in text. A true balance of textures, flavors, and unique end product make our brownies an indulgent, decadent experience. Chocolate, almond, and cherry flavors work so well together with reinforced bitter in the cocoa and cherries, and fortified sweetness in jelly, molasses, and cane sugar balance each other. The nutty, decadent walnut fat is enhanced with sea salt and browned butter, and all of this comes together for a rich, decadent, multi-textured brownie.
Johnny And Elles Handmade Kitchen Cherry Walnut Brownies are chewy and crunchy, sweet and slightly bitter, crispy and soft all at once. We love a contrast of flavors, contract of textures, and balances that work with each other. When a pan of these brownies are brought to a party, the entire batch goes before the end of the night. These Cherry Walnut Brownies are a Johnny Special, an original, unorthodox recipe based on end results rather than traditional recipe.
Flavors Of Note: Sweet, Slightly Bitter, Nutty, Buttery
Textures Of Note: Chewy, Crispy, Crunchy
