Johnny's Cold Cut Sandwich Seasoning

$12.88

As you might imagine, Johnny & Elle have a long history of working in the kitchen, and a staple of every kitchen is a beautifully balanced, unctuos, crispy, slightly acidic, and fatty Italian cold cut sandwich. This seasoning was created by Johnny to be dashed on a classic cold cut sandwich, can be made into a luscious Italian vinaigrette, to make croutons, or to season sauteed sweet peppers for a hot Italian beef sandwich.

Think of this as an elaborate Italian seasoning, with notes of garlic, sweetness of paprika and onion, incredibly aromatic herbaceousness, and a hint of salt to open up your tastebuds. Johnny’s Cold Cut Sandwich Seasoning can also be used to make a mild Italian dipping oil in olive oil for some beautiful crusty French or Italian bread with some fresh grated parmesan or Romano cheese. If you are looing for a universal Italian seasoning, this is it.

Flavors and Aromatics of Note: Sweet, herbaceous, bright.

Uses: Dash over any sandiwiches for an herbaceous flare. Mix in olive oil for dipping bread in, add to simple pasta dishes, or use to marinate vegetables for an antipasto tray or charcuterie board.

Ingredients: granulated garlic, granulated onion, oregano, sea salt (sea salt, magnesium carbonate), paprika, basil, black pepper.

Italian Vinaigrette Recipe: use 1 Tbl of Johnny’s Cold Cut Sandwich Seasoning, ¼ cup red wine vinegar, ¼ cup olive oil, 1 Tbl lemon juice, and optionally add 1 Tbl dijon mustard (used as an emusifier and to add a touch of creaminess) and 1 Tbl of cane sugar to make a sweet and creamy Italian vinaigrette (if used with mustard). If the acidic profile is too much for your taste, add up to 2 Tbl of water to curb the acidic bite.

Italian Butter Noodles & Garlic Recipe: Make noodles and toss in olive oil to prevent sticking. Saute some fresh minced garlic in olive oil and butter in a pot on low, then add Johnny’s Cold Cut Sandwich Seasoning to taste and add cooked pasta and heat through. Stir, adding butter as need to create a creamy sauce and finish with fresh grated parmesan cheese.

*For local Chicagoans: Make a pepper and egg sandwich by sauteing sweet peppers and onions in olive oil and Johnny’s Cold Cut Sandiwch Seasoning, remove solids from pan, leaving seasoned oil in the pan. Cook scrambled eggs in seasoned oil and add more Johnny’s Cold Cut Sandwich Seasoning as needed. Add peppers and onions back in eggs to reheat (after eggs are almost just finished), and put eggs and pepper and onion mix in a soft French roll, add some shredded provolone on a hot sandwichh and wrap tightly in deli wax paper for 2 minutes so the bread can heat up and soften in the steam of the hot eggs and vegetables.

**During Lent in Chicago, beef joints added a Pepper & Egg Sandwich to their menus to offer a meatless option for Catholics on Fridays. Once a very common sandwich, they are still available, but often seasonally.
